Often when a couple first meet they are attracted to each other and in an effort to lure the other into a relationship both parties make an extra effort to communicate with each other. Early in the relationship small changes in mood, body posture or vocal tone are noted and a partner may respond empathically. After a number of years the partners may tune out to these signs as the attention effort required is not considered worth the payoff. So communication between couples can actually decrease over time.
The good news is that you can recapture some of the communication your relationship had or even develop it beyond what it was. This takes time and effort but the lifetime rewards are great.
